Around 1011, during the time of High Burgundy, King Rudolph III donated the castle in Font, very close to Estavayer, to his wife. It is undoubtedly the predecessor of the castle that was erected in the High Middle Ages and destroyed during the Burgundian Wars in 1475. Its ruins still lie on a small hill today.
