Château de Differdange
Château de Differdange, a prominent historical building in southern Luxembourg, now houses the European campus of Miami University. It combines a rich past with a modern educational institution.
History+
The origins of the current castle date back to 1310, when a brother of the Knight of Zolwer had a castle built on this site. In 1400, the family of the original builders died out. After several changes of ownership, the complex was severely damaged by a fire in 1552. Anne of Isembourg had the building rebuilt as a Renaissance castle in 1577, with the addition of a moat and loopholes. In the following centuries, the castle changed hands several times again, until it passed into the possession of the de Cressac family in the mid-19th century. Their descendants sold the property in 1914 to Deutsch-luxemburgische Bergwerks- und Hütten AG. It has since remained in the possession of the companies that operated the local steelworks. The Hadir company converted the castle into a casino to host high-ranking guests there.

Château de Differdange is located in the municipality of Differdange in the canton of Esch-sur-Alzette, in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It is situated at an elevation of approximately 315 meters above sea level.
