The Castle can be visited

The Château de Durtal is a castle complex on the edge of the Loire Valley in France. Originally built in the early 11th century as a defensive structure, today's castle is the result of extensive renovations and extensions from the 15th to the 17th century.

History+

The origins of the Château de Durtal date back to the early 11th century, when Fulk Nerra had a first castle built on this site. Its primary function was to protect the city of Angers. Between the 15th and 17th centuries, the complex underwent numerous transformations and extensions that shaped its current appearance. A comprehensive renovation took place in the 16th century when François de Scépeaux rose to Marshal of France and Durtal became the seat of a county from 1564. During this time, the castle hosted figures such as Henry II, Charles IX, and Catherine de' Medici.
