History+
The name Fayrac appeared in ecclesiastical records as early as the 13th century, originally referring to a fortified house. In the 14th century, it belonged to the Seigneurs of Castelnaud, the Caumont family, and was known as "tours de Fayrac." During the Hundred Years' War, Fayrac served as an outpost for the English castle of Castelnaud, monitoring the opposing Beynac Castle. After the war, the estate passed to Léonard de Prouhet in 1459, a squire of the Count of Périgord, rewarded for his bravery. A gatehouse with a drawbridge was added in the 15th century. Around 1529, under Raymond de Prouhet du Puy, the castle was beautified and a Renaissance-style dwelling was added.
