History+

The origins of Château de Gageac date back to the 12th century when it was built as a simple square tower castle, known as the “Dungeon.” This initial fortification served as an outpost for Duras Castle and was strategically important for monitoring the Dordogne valley. In the 14th century, the complex was expanded, including the addition of another tower. During the Hundred Years' War, Gageac played a role. In 1377, Bertrand du Guesclin, the Constable of France, besieged the castle.
