Château de Gorce

The existence of the Fontlebon family is attested by donations since 1160, but it was not until 1473 that a text cited Antoine de Fontlebon as lord of Gorce. The fief passed by succession to Jean d'Asnière, who sold it in viager to Jacques du Verrier de Boulzat in 1787, who would not emigrate. The Château de Gorce was sold several times in the 20th century. It was listed as a historical monument on October 14, 2002.

Ruins of the circular keep that constituted the primitive castle remain near the pond. The current Château de Gorce dates from the late Middle Ages. The buildings form a U composed of the entrance châtelet which communicates with the main dwelling by a flying bridge and an adjoining common building, and, on either side of an open courtyard, outbuildings whose south wing is flanked, at the ends, by a square section tower. The keep, crowned with machicolations, is flanked by corbelled turrets. The grooves corresponding to the drawbridge are still visible there as well as on the main dwelling. The main dwelling is flanked by a round tower topped with a pepperpot roof and a polygonal stair turret. The door is adorned with Renaissance-style pilasters and the lintel is marked with a perfectly preserved escutcheon. Part of the outbuildings dates back to the 17th century with the date 1654 on a beam.
