Château de Grangent
The Château de Grangent, a historic castle, is in the French region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Originally built on a rocky promontory above the Loire, it is now on a small island in Lac de Grangent, a reservoir created by the construction of the Grangent dam.
The origins of Château de Grangent date back to the year 800, when it was built on a rocky spur approximately 50 meters above the Loire River. Since 1945, it has been listed as a Monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture.
The castle is in the commune of Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert in the Loire department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. It stands at an elevation of approximately 423 meters above sea level and is now surrounded by the waters of Lac de Grangent.
Château de Grangent is privately owned. Visitors can view the castle from the shores of the lake.
