The Château de Guirbaden, a castle ruin in the Vosges mountains, is on a 569-meter-high promontory above the Magel valley near Mollkirch in the French department of Bas-Rhin. It is one of the largest Staufer-era castle complexes in Alsace.

History+

The first documented mention of the castle as "Girbadun" occurred in 1137. It is believed that Count Hugo VII of Dagsburg-Egisheim (1095–1137) had it built at the latest by this time to protect the nearby Benedictine abbey of Altorf. In 1162, the complex was destroyed on the orders of Frederick I Barbarossa.
