Château de Hohenstein
The Château de Hohenstein, a castle ruin, is on a rocky outcrop in the Vosges mountains. It is located in the municipality of Oberhaslach in the French department of Bas-Rhin.
History+
The origins of the Château de Hohenstein date back to the early 13th century, when it was built by the Hohenstein family. Towards the end of the same century, the Bishop of Strasbourg was among the co-owners of the complex. In 1337, Bishop Berthold de Bucheck was imprisoned in the castle by Rodolphe de Hohenstein. After his release, the bishop took over the castle, which never recovered from this incident and subsequently fell into disrepair.

The castle ruin of Hohenstein is located in Oberhaslach in the Bas-Rhin department, which belongs to the Grand Est region in France. It is situated at an altitude of approximately 461 meters above sea level.
