Château de Jenzat

The history of the site is marked by several successive constructions. Originally, a 13th-century castle stood here, of which only a large round tower remains today. In the 15th century, a fortified house was built. Around 1651, a part of the property changed hands when Blain de Chauvigny de Blot sold one-third of the castle to Gilbert de Champfeu. In 1744, Guillaume du Jouhannel acquired the lordship of Jenzat. His son Jean-Baptiste Julien, a counselor at the Parliament of Paris, had the new, classical castle built and French gardens laid out between 1760 and 1780. The estate is still owned by the descendants of the de Roquefeuil family and was classified as a historical monument in 1995.

The Château de Jenzat is located in the heart of the commune of Jenzat, in the Allier department, in the Auvergne region of France. It stands at an elevation of approximately 283 m above sea level.

Today, the Château de Jenzat is privately owned. Visitors will find two castles within the same park: an older one from the 15th century, with its facade facing east, and a classical 18th-century castle, whose axis is rotated by 90 degrees and whose facade faces south. A monumental gate provides access to the park and leads via an avenue to the newer castle.
