Château de Jenzat

The site's history is marked by several successive structures. Originally, a 13th-century castle stood here, of which only a large round tower remains today. A fortified house followed in the 15th century. Around 1651, a portion of the property transferred from Blain de Chauvigny de Blot to Gilbert de Champfeu. The lordship of Jenzat was acquired in 1744 by Guillaume du Jouhannel, a respected magistrate. His son, Jean-Baptiste Julien, also a high official, had the current classical castle built between 1760 and 1780, along with corresponding French gardens. The estate remains in the possession of the descendants of the de Roquefeuil family to this day and was classified as a historical monument in 1995.

The castle is situated at approximately 289 meters above sea level in the heart of the commune of Jenzat, in the Allier department, which belongs to the Auvergne region of France.

Today, the Château de Jenzat is privately owned. Visitors will find two castles within a park: an older one from the 15th century with an east-facing facade, and a classical castle from the 18th century, whose axis is rotated by 90 degrees and features a south-facing facade. An imposing wrought-iron gate marks the entrance to the park, leading to an avenue that opens up to the classical castle.
