History+

The origins of Kintzheim Castle date back to 1270, when it was first documented as "castrum Kunegesheim." Its early Gothic tracery windows suggest that construction began around 1250. Initially owned by the Lords of Rathsamhausen, the castle changed hands several times. Around 1480, it was expanded by Caspar von Mörsberg before falling to the city of Sélestat in 1492. The complex suffered damage during the Thirty Years' War and returned to private ownership in 1649.
