Château de l'Herbaudière
The Château de l'Herbaudière is located in the commune of Saivres in Deux-Sèvres in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France.
History+
Mentioned in 1344, the seigneury of l'Herbaudière was part of the castellany of Sainte-Néomaye and belonged to the Chauveau family then Neuport for nearly two centuries. It was Philippe de Neuport (died in 1630) who was responsible for the construction of a new dwelling around 1599.
Architecture+
The castle forms a quadrilateral composed of a dwelling at the back of the courtyard and three wings of outbuildings. Inside, one should note the axial ramp-on-ramp staircase, monumental fireplaces, the most remarkable of which is in the living room itself, decorated with panoramic wallpaper depicting hunting scenes. It has been listed as a historical monument since October 4, 1994.
