Château de Lœwenstein

First documented in the 13th century, Lœwenstein Castle was initially an imperial fief held by Wolfram von Lœwenstein. In 1283, King Rudolf of Habsburg granted the castle to Johann Ochsenstein. Later, in 1380, the complex was divided and partially pledged to Johannes I. von Bitsch. Just three years later, in 1386, the castle was destroyed by Imperial Vicar Johann von Lichtenberg, a consequence of robber barony. It was likely not rebuilt.
