The Château de la Barre is a castle complex in the commune of Brégnier-Cordon in the French department of Ain. Its location on the western slope of Mont de Cordon once allowed control of traffic on the Rhône.

History+

The origins of the Château de la Barre date back to the 14th century, when it served as a fortified complex. It originally functioned as a courthouse and toll collection center, which gave it its name "La Barre". After the destruction of the nearby Château de Cordon, it became the new seat of the House of Cordon. The current main building was constructed in the 20th century, while the medieval fortifications were preserved.
