History+
The castle's origins date back to the feudal era when it became the property of the Seyssel family. In the 13th century, after the death of Humbert III, Lord of Aix and Bordeau, the younger son Hugues inherited the Château de La Bâtie, while the elder son received the fortress of Aix. When the last descendant of this cadet branch died in 1517, the castle reverted to the Lords of Aix. Following the death of Maurice de Seyssel in 1660, the fief passed to Jacques d'Allinges, who sold it in 1679 to François d'Oncieu. The d'Oncieu family's lands in La Bâtie were elevated to a marquisate in 1699.
