The Château de La Brède, a moated castle from the 13th century, is located in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. It is known as the birthplace and workplace of the philosopher Montesquieu.

History+

The origins of this Gothic structure date back to the 13th century. Despite various alterations in subsequent centuries, the castle retained its original feudal character. It served for a long time as the residence of the Montesquieu family and was the place where the legal philosopher wrote a large part of his works. Since 2008, the entire estate has been a protected monument.
