Château de la Bretonnière

The Château de la Bretonnière is a historic residence located in Vigneux-de-Bretagne, in the Loire-Atlantique department of the Pays de la Loire region in western France. It stands 1.5 km north-west of the village centre, in the heart of a 50–60-hectare park of mature woodland bordering a pond of more than 1.5 hectares. The estate lies about 20 km from Nantes, easily reached via the Nantes–Saint-Nazaire expressway.

It originated as a hunting lodge (relais de chasse) of the Dukes of Rohan and may date back to the 15th century. The property later passed to the Charette family (around 1567), then to the Monti de Rezé family, and subsequently to M. d’Izarn. During the Second World War it was used as a school of espionage. Since at least 1932 it has belonged to the de la Grandière family, the present owners.

Apart from one tower that dates from the 16th century, the current château was built in the 18th and 19th centuries in the neo-Gothic Breton style. The outbuildings (dépendances) have retained much of their original character and open onto the illuminated château at night.

The château remains private property. Its outbuildings are regularly used for receptions, seminars, weddings and festive meals, with a capacity of up to around 200 seated guests. The wooded park and large pond provide an attractive natural setting for these events.
