History+

The castle was built in the 1660s and was the only one in the Mauges that was spared during the Revolutionary Wars. The complex includes French gardens surrounded by moats, outbuildings (from the 17th and 18th centuries), two courtyard pavilions and an orthogonal moat system. In the 19th century, alterations were made, including the intendant's house and the Sainte-Sophie chapel, called "enfeu des Gibot" in 1846. The building was classified as a historical monument in 1988 and registered in 2005.
