Château de La Palice
The Château de La Palice in Lapalisse, in the Allier department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, France, evolved from a medieval fortress to a Renaissance château.
History+
The origins of the Château de La Palice date back to the 11th century, with the feudal parts constructed between the 11th and 13th centuries. In 1430, Jacques I de Chabannes acquired this property. His grandson, Jacques II, who later became a Marshal of France, added a Renaissance wing made of rose-coloured bricks at the beginning of the 16th century. This new construction replaced a wall that connected the fortress to a Gothic chapel built around 1470. The interior ceilings are adorned with colourful coffered beams inlaid with gold.

The furnished rooms house historical artefacts and serve as a museum. The Château de La Palice is listed as a Monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture.
