History+
In the 17th century, the fief of La Poterie belonged to the Mocquard family, merchants from Nantes, who were allied with the Grilleau de La Vinaudière and the Pontdavy. René Mocquard, Lord of La Poterie, was Miseur and later alderman of Nantes. By inheritance, the estate passed to the Vanasse, shipowners in La Fosse, who were allied with the Clanchy, Irish nobles allied with the Monti and Freslon. The current Château de la Poterie is a Nantes folly in the Louis XVI style, built at the end of the 18th century by the architect Jean-Baptiste Ceineray for the Vanasse family on the banks of the Erdre. In 1850, La Poterie was owned by the widow of Freslon before being acquired by Louis Lespervier. In 1863, the castle and its estate of over 100 ha passed to the Levesque family through Louis Auguste Levesque. His son Rogatien established a kennel there.
