Château de Lacoste

The origins of the Château de Lacoste date back to the 11th century, with subsequent modifications and expansions over the following centuries. For a long time, the castle was owned by the Simiane family. In 1627, Diane Simiane married Jean-Baptiste de Sade, an ancestor of the Marquis de Sade, thereby transferring the castle into the Sade family's possession. Another hypothesis suggests that Isabelle Simiane bequeathed the castle to her cousin Gaspard François de Sade in 1716. The Marquis de Sade himself spent several periods at the castle between 1769 and 1778, particularly after scandals and his flight.
