Château de Maisontiers

The castle is located to the east of the village of Maisontiers, between the departmental road 137 where its entrance is, and the Taconnière stream.

It seems that a fief of the Knights Hospitaller existed in Maisontiers as early as the 13th century. At the end of the 15th century, Claude de Montjehan bought the buildings, then modified them, to build the current castle. She sold it on May 21, 1544, to Guyonne Bernard, Lady of la Bernardière, wife of René de Tusseau, squire lord of la Millanchère. The castle was partially listed for its facades, roofs, and moats as a historical monument on November 28, 1957, then in its entirety, as well as its domain, since November 8, 2005. The castle, its moats, and certain plots of the domain have been classified as historical monuments since December 10, 2013.

The west wing, the one remodeled by Claude de Montjehan, is the oldest part. The most recent, the stable, dates from the 19th century. The Château de Maisontiers is remarkable for its moats, which in the northeast reach 110 meters long and 40 meters wide.
