Château de Marracq

The remains of the castle can be visited

The Château de Marracq, an 18th-century castle in Bayonne, Pyrénées-Atlantiques department, Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, France, is now in ruins.

History+

The castle was built at the beginning of the 18th century on behalf of Maria Anna of Neuburg, the former Queen of Spain in exile. Although she was the patron, she never resided in the property, preferring her residence in Saint-Michel. In May 1808, Napoleon I acquired the Château de Marracq from the Marqfoy brothers and used it as one of his imperial palaces. During his stay in Bayonne, he preferred the Château de Marracq to the Château-Vieux.
