Château de Menetou-Couture

The origins of the Château de Menetou-Couture date back to 1460, when the keep was built by the brothers Jean and Philippe de Villaines, then lords of Menetou-Couture. This fortified tower was part of a fortified complex that served a military function on the border between the historical provinces of Burgundy and Berry. The de Villaines family owned the castle for several decades. In the late 15th century, a residential building was added, while further additions were made in the mid-18th century. In 1908, the then owner had to sell large parts of the surrounding lands, leaving only 40 hectares, corresponding to the current park, out of the original 667 hectares. The current owners acquired the castle in 1990.
