Château de Mercy

The initiative for the castle's construction came from Maurice du Coëtlosquet, but after his death, it was realized by his widow around 1905. An Alsatian architect, a graduate of the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris, designed the building. It was constructed from Savonnières stone, imported from the Barrois, and deliberately reflected a French style intended to underscore the Francophile convictions of its patron. A French garden, designed by Jean-Joseph Picoré, complemented the estate. After World War I, in 1919, the castle returned to French ownership. During the German annexation of the Moselle in 1940, it served as a military hospital. After World War II, in 1953, it became the command post for the 1st Air Division of the Royal Canadian Air Force, remaining so until 1966. From 1968, the French army used the castle as headquarters for various brigades and commands until its dissolution in 1993. In 2000, the property passed to the Metz-Métropole agglomeration community and was listed as a historical monument in 2019. In 2021, the company Wynn Patrimoine acquired the castle with the intention of converting it into apartments and commercial spaces.

The Château de Mercy is located in Ars-Laquenexy in the Moselle department in the Lorraine region, France, at an altitude of approximately 244 meters above sea level.

The Château de Mercy is privately owned and was fully listed as a historical monument in 2019. It is currently designated for future use as residential and commercial premises.
