Château de Merle

The origins of the Château de Merle date back to the 12th century, with the complex being expanded until the 15th century. In the 14th century, Merle was an ensemble of seven castles, two chapels, and a village, jointly owned by seven noble families. During the Hundred Years' War, English troops captured one of the towers and one of the castles in 1371. Later, in 1574, Calvinists occupied the citadel and established a garrison there.
