The Castle can be visited

Directly on the banks of the Loire, the Château de Montsoreau is an example of late medieval and early Renaissance architecture. Located in the village of Montsoreau, it combines defensive elements with the style of its era.

History+

The origins of the Château de Montsoreau date back to the mid-15th century, when Jean de Chambes, a confidant of King Charles VII, erected the structure at a point. It served to secure the trade routes between Chinon and Saumur. After the French Revolution, the castle experienced a history, was divided among several owners, and gradually fell into disrepair, gaining literary fame through Alexandre Dumas' novel "La Dame de Montsoreau". Following its acquisition by the Département, a restoration returned the building to its glory.
