History+
The origins of the Château de Mortemart date back to the 15th century, when it was built by the Mortemart family as a representative residence. However, the ducal title, often associated with the castle today, was only bestowed upon the Mortemart dynasty in the 17th century under the reign of Louis XIV. After the building had fallen into ruin over time, it was repurchased by a descendant of the noble family at the end of the 19th century. In the 20th century, the Château underwent extensive restoration, including the reconstruction of its original moat.
