Château de Pleuville
The Château de Pleuville, a rural castle in the north of the French department of Charente, was rebuilt in the 1860s by the Favre d'Echallens family and remains in its original state to this day, complemented by a full set of outbuildings.
History+
In the late 18th century, the land on which the Château de Pleuville stands belonged to the Duverrier de Boulzat family, based at the Château de Gorce. After the French Revolution, Pierre-Jacques Duverrier managed to retain the family's existing properties and acquire other estates. He also became mayor of the new commune of Pleuville, holding this position until his death in 1829. His son Antoine inherited the Pleuville properties. A rectangular building shown on an 1825 cadastral plan near the village center was likely adapted and raised in height to form the present structure. The roof and northwest facade were newly constructed, stylistically based on the Château de Sommières. The current barns, main gate, and moat were also newly added.
