In Arnac-Pompadour, in the French department of Corrèze, stands the Château de Pompadour. It is known for its connection to King Louis XV's mistress, Madame de Pompadour.

History+

Around the year 1000, a castrum was built on this site by Guy de Lastours, though no traces of it remain today. The current castle was constructed in the 15th century by Geoffrey Helie de Pompadour, whose family received the title of Marquis in 1614. This title gained fame in 1745 when King Louis XV bestowed it upon his mistress, who became the Marquise de Pompadour.
