Château de Posanges

The Château de Posanges is an impressive castle located in the French region of Burgundy, specifically in Posanges in the Côte-d’Or department. This fortified complex from the 15th century stands out due to its medieval construction, which gives it a very castle-like appearance.
History+
The origins of the Seigneury of Posanges date back to 1299, when Eudes de Frolois received it as a fief from the Burgundian Duke Robert II. A fortified house already existed then, but not on the current site. In the 15th century, Guillaume du Bois, an influential official under Philip the Good, acquired the scattered parts of the seigneury. From 1437, he had the current representative complex built, which was still unfinished at the time of his death in 1453. His son Antoine completed the castle around 1490. The du Bois family owned the complex until 1561, when Joachim du Bois was forced to sell it due to a large compensation payment. After further changes of ownership, including the Ursuline convent of Vitteaux, the castle was confiscated and auctioned during the French Revolution. In 1964, a weaving mill was built in the castle courtyard, but it was demolished again in 1980. Extensive restoration work began in the same year.
