Château de Promery

The Château de Promery is a former fortified complex from the 14th century, located in Pringy in the Haute-Savoie department of the Rhône-Alpes region in France. It is partially listed as a historical monument and is characterized by its long history and use as a country estate.
History+
The exact period of the fortified house's construction is unknown, but it is dated to the 13th or 14th century based on the use of pebbles in the foundations. The Trombert family is considered the first owners, followed by the de Monthoux family. A first documentary mention dates from the early 14th century, when Pierre de Monthoux owned the property. It remained in this family's possession until 1578, then passed to the Menthon-Lonay family through marriage or donation. Humbert de Menthon-Lonay sold the Château de Promery in 1618 to René Favre de la Valbonne, who undertook extensive renovations and used it as a country residence. After his death in 1656, complicated inheritance disputes followed, lasting for decades and finally decided in favor of Marie de Villaret in 1772. Through marriage, the castle came into the possession of the La Grange family until it was confiscated during the French Revolution and sold as national property. After several changes of ownership, the Château de Promery was restored in the 19th century and partially recognized as a historical monument in 1951.
