The remains of the Castle can be visited
Château de Puivert

The Château de Puivert, an imposing castle ruin, is perched on a ridge in the French department of Aude. Originally a Cathar castle, it was rebuilt on the same site in the 14th century and today impresses with its well-preserved architecture and rich history.
History+
The first mention of a castle in Puivert dates back to 1170. This earlier complex belonged to the Congost family, who were sympathetic to the Cathars. During the Albigensian Crusade, the castle was besieged by the troops of Thomas Pons de Bruyère at the end of 1210 and capitulated after only three days. In the early 14th century, Thomas de Bruyère, the grandson of the besieger, and his wife Isabelle of Melun had the current castle rebuilt immediately east of the old complex. The coats of arms of the builders can still be seen today on the Gothic entrance portal of the keep. Since 1907, the Château de Puivert has been classified as a Monument historique.

The castle ruin is privately owned but accessible to visitors. The well-preserved keep and parts of the curtain wall bear witness to the former grandeur of the complex. Inside the keep, visitors can explore the castle chapel and the famous Hall of Musicians, which owes its name to the artfully carved corbels depicting musicians. From the roof of the keep, a wide view of the surrounding area is offered.
