The Château de Rambouillet, a historic castle, is located in the town of Rambouillet, approximately 50 kilometers southwest of Paris. Originally built in the 14th century, it now serves as the summer residence for French presidents and has been the site of international conferences.
History+
The castle's origins date back to 1368 when it was constructed by Jean Bernier. In 1783, Louis XVI acquired the estate for use as a private residence. Since 1896, the Château de Rambouillet has served as the official summer residence of French presidents. Furthermore, it has hosted diplomatic events, including the first G6 summit in 1975 and a meeting of the Kosovo conflict parties in 1999.
