Château de Ressouches

The castle is located in the commune of Chanac, in Lozère, the former province of Gévaudan. It is situated below, to the west, of the village of Chanac, on the right bank of the Lot, at the water's edge.

The village of Chanac had one or two castles built by and for the kings of Aragon. This domain, however, was under the domination of the bishops of Mende. Thus, we learn that a manse (small feudal domain constituting an agricultural exploitation unit), property of the bishops, was located in Ressouches in the 13th century. It is probable that the current castle was built in the 16th century to consolidate this fortified house. In the mid-17th century, the castle became the property of Antoine de Buisson, who then carried out important repairs, and took the opportunity to rebuild the adjoining farm. The chapel also dates from the 17th century. The coats of arms of the Dupont de Ligonnès family are represented there, a family illustrated by Charles de Ligonnès, Bishop of Rodez and Vabres, and owners of the castle from 1908. In the 19th century, the farm was enlarged, notably with the addition of the stables adjoining the chapel. The current owner of the premises is Chantal Dupont de Ligonnès, wife Bazin de Jessey.
