Château de Sagonne

The Château de Sagonne, originally built as a fortress, now reflects the evolution from a medieval defensive structure to a residential castle.
History+
The origins of the Château de Sagonne date back to the 10th century, when the Sancerre family established a lordship here. The castle was built in the 14th century, its primary function being to control the trade route between Bourges and Sancoins. In 1546, the estate passed into the possession of the Babou family, who carried out alterations throughout the 16th century. The Château experienced another phase from 1699 under the architect Jules Hardouin Mansart, who made architectural changes in the early 18th century. During the French Revolution, the complex suffered damage, and its contents and materials were sold.
Location+
The Château de Sagonne is located in the commune of Sagonne in the Cher department, within the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The complex is situated at an elevation of approximately 193 meters above sea level.
