Château de Saint-Cyprien

The Château de Saint-Cyprien, also called Château de Beaumont, is an 18th-century noble residence located in the commune of Saint-Cyprien, in the Dordogne department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in southwestern France (Périgord Noir). It stands outside the medieval walls, at the south-western entrance to the town.
Built in the Louis XVI style, the main building opens through a portico of four columns and two pilasters, surmounted by a window that is itself framed by four columns and topped by a Greek key frieze and a triangular pediment. The pilasters are of the composite Ionic order. Two superimposed orders of columns frame the entrance door and the window above it, creating a remarkable architectural composition. The house stands on two terraces reached by steps. An L-shaped wing was added in the 19th century.
The château belonged to the Beaumont family. Its park, designed in the early 20th century by the landscape architect Édouard André, includes terraces and a stretch of water; the park suffered damage in the December 1999 storm.
The château itself was inscribed as a Monument historique by decree of 22 August 1949. The entire park, with its terraces and water feature, was inscribed on 20 December 2002. It remains private property.
(Note: Saint-Cyprien also possesses the more medieval and Renaissance Château de Fages, situated on a former Gallo-Roman oppidum, which is a separate monument.)
