Château de Saint-Projet

This seigneury was given by Philip the Fair to Jehan de Jehan who built the primitive castle on a Gallo-Roman tumulus. This family, later known as Jehan de Saint-Projet, kept this fief until it died out in the male line and merged in 1560 into the Quercy family of Lafon, through the marriage of Françoise de Jehan with Flotard I de Lafon de Féneyrols.

From their marriage, they had four children, Flotard II, Marguerite married in 1585 to Bathazard de Cadrieu, Suzanne married in 1590 to Françoise de Cahuzac, and Jacques married to Angelote de Castanet, daughter of Bernard and Jeanne de Montfaucon; Flotard II de Lafon, lord of Féneyrols and Saint-Projet, married in 1585 Isabelle de Fontenille, lady of Montesquieu, daughter of Philippe de La Roche, baron of Fontenille, ordinary gentleman of King Charles IX, and Françoise de Lasseran-Massencomme who was the daughter of the famous Captain Montluc. The grandson of Flotard II de Lafon de Féneyrols, Fabien de Lafon de Saint-Projet married on November 12, 1655, Françoise de Reilhac, from whom Joseph Bonaventure, who married Marie Bonaventure de Montclar de Montbrun, on February 24, 1705, in the chapel of the Château de Montbrun, in Méallet (Cantal), daughter of Gaspard de Montclar and Juliette de Fontanges

Margot de Valois

Castle that served as a refuge for Marguerite de Valois, "Queen Margot", pursued by the troops of King Henri III of France, during the Wars of Religion. Leaving Nérac on September 25, 1585, she slept in the village of Brassard, in the Agenais, the next day, in Saint-Projet; on the 27th in Bournazel, in the Rouergue; on the 28th, she was in Entraygues, on the 29th in Montsalvy; on the 30th, at home, in Carlat. There, she was protected and guarded by the castle captain, Gilbert de Marzes (Gilbert Robert de Lignerac). After her departure, her room was walled up. It was rediscovered with its furniture in 1990, following renovations.

In 2017, a team from the show Secrets d'Histoire filmed several sequences at the castle as part of an episode dedicated to Marguerite de Valois, titled The Black Legend of Queen Margot and broadcast on June 29, 2017, on France 2.
