Château de Saint-Trys

The Château de Saint-Trys is located in the commune of Anse, in the Rhône department. It is surrounded by woods. From the terrace, one can discover a vast panorama of the Saône valley.

History+

The first lord of Saint-Trys was Pierre Scarron (1536 - 1607), advisor and maître d'hôtel to the king, provost of the merchants of Lyon. Pierre, knight, treasurer of France, married Françoise David, then Urbain, uncle of the poet Paul Scarron, inherited the property. Jean-Baptiste Giraud, then a bourgeois of Lyon, bought the estate in 1672. Jean (1729 - ), squire, husband of Claudine Barthélemy Croppet de Varissan, was imprisoned in Les Recluses in 1794; his son Georges-Marie was his heir. The Giraud family owned Saint-Trys until 1876. Nowadays, Count Dorick de Brosses and Countess Sybille, née Durand de Gevigney, host professional and private events at the château.

Architecture+

The château, which dates from the 17th century, was restored in the 18th century. The construction consists of a main dwelling with a ground floor, two upper floors, and an attic floor, and two projecting pavilions separated from the dwelling by a bay. The eastern facade features a central avant-corps of three bays surmounted by a triangular pediment and preceded by a monumental staircase. Among the outbuildings, there is a cloister to the south of the château. The Château de Saint-Trys, a private property, has been listed as a historical monument since October 7, 1975, for its roofs and facades, and classified for the decoration of the ground floor and first-floor rooms.

Park and Gardens+

The park, created by the landscape architect Jean-Marie Morel (1728 - 1810), covers 30 hectares. Two original plans, dated 1806 and 1807, still exist.
