The 13th-century castle ruin Château de Sainte-Mère is located in the French Occitanie region. It was once built as a border outpost.
History+
The origins of the Château de Sainte-Mère date back to the 13th century. Its construction took place around the time of the Treaty of Amiens in 1279. The builder was Géraud de Monlezun, the then Bishop of Lectoure. The castle primarily served to defend the border with English territories. Its layout was rectangular, complemented by two towers on the north facade. Since 1977, the Château de Sainte-Mère has been protected as a historical monument by the French Ministry of Culture.
