Château de Sanem

The origins of the Château de Sanem date back to the 13th century, when it was first mentioned as a moated castle. In 1550, the complex suffered severe damage from French troops. Just 17 years later, in 1567, Frédéric de Hagen-Fleckenstein had a new castle built on the remaining foundations. The Gothic, square tower of the original castle was integrated into the new construction. In the 17th century, the castle was again damaged by fire but rebuilt and later used by Polish units of the imperial army.
