History+
The castle of Taltevul is mentioned in 1011, during the donation that Bernard Taillefer, Count of Besalú, wished to make of it as an allod to his eldest son, Guillem. It is mentioned again in 1020, in the will of Bernard Taillefer, under the name of Taltevolo castle. It passed to the Vernet family around the beginning of the 13th century, then to the Counts of Empúries on November 14, 1261, and finally to the royal domain shortly after. It was destroyed by the French in the 17th century. The Château de Tautavel has been listed as a historical monument since March 17, 1986.
