Château de Tiffauges

The origins of the Château de Tiffauges date back to the 12th century, with the complex continuously expanded until the 16th century. Due to its strategically important location in the border region between Brittany, Poitou, and Anjou, it played a role. The castle was the scene of atrocities committed by Gilles de Rais (1404–1440), who went down in history as Bluebeard. After his time, the castle fell into disrepair and lay in ruins for a long time, with the inner courtyard even temporarily used as a football pitch.
