Château de Trazegnies

The castle's origins date back to the 11th century, evidenced by Romanesque cellars. Gilles I de Trazegnies is considered the original builder. The Lords of Trazegnies played a role in the Crusades: Otton II fought alongside Richard of England and died in 1192 during the Siege of Saint-Jean d’Arce. His son Gilles II sold lands to participate in the Fourth Crusade, and Gilles III led King Louis IX's army as commander on the Seventh and Eighth Crusades. In 1554, the castle suffered damage from a fire set by the troops of Henry II of France.
