Château de Triadou

The origins of Château de Triadou date back to 1470, when its construction began. From July 1479, it was inhabited by Pierre II d'Albignac, Lord of Triadou, and his wife Flore de Capluc. Flore brought half of the lands of Peyreleau as her dowry into the marriage. The construction site originally belonged to the monks of Rozier. Despite extensive work, the castle remained unfinished for a long time. In 1510, the d'Albignac family inherited all the lands of Guillaume de Capluc, as his son Louis pursued an ecclesiastical career. Pierre d'Albignac died in 1517, followed by Flore de Capluc just a few months later. A planned expansion in 1559 by Pierre III d'Albignac failed due to financial constraints. A turning point came with a successful attack on Mont-Fraysse, where Pierre III captured a war treasure that enabled further expansion, though the treasure's location remained secret until his death. Simon d'Albignac, his son, used this wealth in 1607 to acquire the lands of Capluc and Veyreau. François Ier d'Albignac expanded the complex in 1669 with outbuildings, an octagonal chapel, and a square tower. The legend of the treasure persisted until the Revolution. The last Lord of Albignac, Philippe-François d'Albignac de Castelnau, a staunch opponent of the Civil Constitution of the Clergy, fled to England in 1792. During the Revolution, the castle was plundered in 1791, revealing gold and silver coins that were possibly part of the long-sought treasure. Philippe-François died in London in 1814. The castle later served as Peyreleau's town hall until a new building was erected in 1893. Listed as a historical monument since 1944, it is now divided among several owners.

The Château de Triadou is situated in Peyreleau, in the Aveyron department, within the Midi-Pyrénées region of France. It is located at an elevation of approximately 425 meters above sea level.

The castle is currently privately owned and divided into several parts. It was added to the list of historical monuments on May 12, 1944.
