Château de Ventadour

The origins of the Château de Ventadour date back to the 12th century, when the fief of Meyras belonged to the Solignacs. In 1195, ownership changed hands through the marriage of the lord of Montlaur to Miracle de Solignac, whose brother Béraud de Solignac ceded the fief to them. The Solignacs left the castle at the end of the 14th century. In 1472, the lord of Meyras married Blanche de Ventadour, but the castle was no longer inhabited thereafter. By the time of the French Revolution, it was already described as destroyed and later largely served as a stone quarry. Since 1969, the Château de Ventadour has been undergoing a restoration project.
