Château de Vêves

The origins of Château de Vêves possibly date back to Pepin the Middle in the 7th century, who used the strategic location near the Dinant-Rochefort road and the hermitage of Saint Hadelin for fortifications. From the 12th century, the castle was demonstrably owned by the Lords of Beaufort. In 1466, Lord Ludwig von Beaufort participated in the siege of Dinant by Charles the Bold. Through the marriage of Countess Marie-Robertine von Beaufort to Jacques-Ignace von Gavre in 1761, the property passed to the Liedekerke Beaufort family, in whose hands the castle has remained to this day.
