History+

The origins of the Château de Villars date back to the 14th century. During the Hundred Years' War, the fortress played a role and was the scene of conflicts between the French, English, Armagnacs, and Bourbons. It is said that Joan of Arc stayed here before setting out to liberate Saint-Pierre-le-Moûtier. In the 19th century, the interior of the castle was converted for agricultural use and served this purpose until the 1970s. Since 2006, Hubert de Vassal and his wife Ana, who inherited the property, have been dedicating themselves to the renovation of the buildings.
