Château de Villers-sur-Lesse
The Château de Villers-sur-Lesse is located in the district of Villers-sur-Lesse the Belgian municipality of Rochefort in the Walloon province of Namur.
The castle of Villers-sur-Lesse was first mentioned in documents in 1316. Originally, the land around Villers belonged to the men of Celles. Through the marriage of Catherine de Celles-with Itel-Frederic de Merode in 1637, the property cam to the Earl of Merode. Finally, the castle fell to his cousin, the Marquis de Merode Deinze, and was sold to Gideon Desandrouin in 1733.
After the death of his father, inherited Jean-Jacques Desandrouin the castle. First he married Marie-Charlotte de Houelle de Pommeray and second marriage then Jourdaine Le Tirant de Villers, daughter of the Marquis Louis de Villers.
By a fire in 1857 the castle was partially destroyed. A wing was destroyed, and only the right wing was rebuilt. 1892 bought by the Belgian King Leopold II the property.
